San Pablo Surgical Associates was founded in May 1, 1995 by Dr. Edwin Gonz·lez and Dr. Emilio PÈrez. They are both Board Certified in General Surgery and Members of the American College of Surgeons. Their main objective is to provide the best ongoing medical and surgical care.
Edwin Gonz·lez Navedo, MD, FACS- Graduated from medicine at the Universidad Central del Caribe de Puerto Rico- in 1981. From 1981-86, specialized in general surgery at the San Juan City Hospital in Puerto Rico Medical Center. From 1985 to 1986 he was Chief Resident and a year after graduation he remained as Professor until 1987. From 1988 to 1990 he attended courses in laparoscopic surgery and LASER technology. In May 1990 he performed the first removal of a gallbladder using the laparoscopic technique in Puerto Rico. So far he has performed over 2500 cases of this type of surgery. In 1996 he was appointed Secretary of the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American College of Surgeons; in 1997 he was elected Director of the Scientific Program. In 1998 he was elected President of the Chapter and during the same year he served as President of the Medical Faculty of San Pablo Hospital. In 1998, 2000 and 2002 he has been honored with the Doctors Choice Award in General Surgery. In October of 2002 he was also honored with the Dr. Marcial A. Rojas award given by the Ex-Alumni of UCCEM.
Emilio PÈrez de LeÛn, MD, FACS- Graduated from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1983. He entered the General Surgery Residence at the University Hospital at the Puerto Rico Medical Center and completed his studies in 1988. From 1988 to 1995 he practiced at the Puerto Rico Veteran's Hospital as Assistant Professor. In 1995 he was appointed Chairman of the Scientific Program of the American College of Surgeons, Puerto Rico Chapter and in 1999 became President. In January 1999 they founded a Varicose Vein Treatment Center.
